Houses flattened, faces filled with despair and confusion... those faces...
We, who went to Soma City as volunteers, witnessed firsthand the fury of nature which defies expression.
We have since continued to support efforts to rebuild by conducting rituals and charity performances in a variety of locations.
Prayers to the Buddhas will undoubtedly be met... in this we believe.
On March 11th, 2015, four years since the earthquake struck, we will transform the Tokyo International Forum into a place of prayer.
So that those in the affected areas can reclaim their happiness.
Please lend us the power of your prayers.
A "flowing reading" of the Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra is a ritual that transmits the prayers of people to the Buddhas.
From ancient times, this ritual has been widely performed with hope for attaining a peaceful and safe country.
During a "flowing reading" a large number of Buddhist priests open the pages of the 600 volume Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra to the air which climaxes with a unified recitation of the title of each volume.
On this day, with prayers for restoration, the voices of our Buddhist priests will ring out as the pages of the Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra flow past.
As part of this public performance, world reknowned saxphonist Watanabe Sado will play a piano session.
Traditional Japanese Drummer Hayashi Eitetsu and the members of “Eitetsu Wind and Clouds Ensemble” will perform with the Buddhist priests of the Buzan Order of Shingon Buddhism.
Other performances include traditional Buddhist music, Buddhist chanting and wind instruments.
